LOUIS HUDSON

Born in London but raised in the rugged coastlines of Norfolk, Louis Hudson has been heavily influenced by these starkly contrasting environments. This is reflected in his work, as architectural elements of the urban world collide with the space and colour of more natural environments. Inspired by graphic designers from the 1920’s 1970’s such as El Lissitzky, Varvara Stepanova and Alan Fletcher as well as the painterly styles of Frank Auerbach, Francis Bacon and Turner, Louis’ familiarity with contrasting styles and applications of design and painting have culminated in a very distinctive direction for his own work, which combines the clean, sharp and bold aesthetic of the Russian Constructivist movement with a much more hands on, loose and tactile use of materials and styles, from recycled boat sails to hand-made steel frames.
